ATU Local 113 is pleased with the direction from Mayor Olivia Chow to begin the process of reversing the TTC’s cuts to service.
This is a critical step to restore confidence in our public transit system for those who depend on it, including Toronto’s transit riders and transit workers.
ATU Local 113 would like to extend our congratulations to Andrew Falotico on being appointed as the new Health and Safety Director for ATU International. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Andrew and we wish him all the best in his new role.

Today is National Emancipation Day, which marks the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 coming into effect. This legislation made the purchase or ownership of slaves illegal across the British Empire.
ATU Local 113 is proud to stand with Black and Indigenous communities in Canada in the fight against racism, discrimination, and intolerance. Today we celebrate the strength and resilience of Black communities in this country.
ATU Local 113 president Marvin Alfred spoke with the Toronto Sun yesterday about an incident in which a passenger verbally assaulted a bus driver and tried to kick down the driver’s barrier. ATU Local 113 condemns this unnecessary abuse and continues to fight for the safety and respect of all transit workers.
ATU Local 113 has been made aware of a derailment incident earlier this evening on the Scarborough Line 3 in the Kennedy Road and Ellesmere Road area. At this time, we are aware of several passengers with minor injuries who have received treatment from emergency responders. The cause of the incident is not yet known. As we await further reports on the incident, ATU Local 113 is hopeful that everyone impacted by the incident is safe and receiving the medical assistance they need.
Further updates will follow as more information becomes available
ATU Local 113 has long advocated for additional measures to be taken to protect the safety and health of our members.
Along with ATU International, Centennial College, and the TTC, we are proud to unveil a bus-of-the-future design-concept, as part of a Bus Design Innovation Program.
This new design will include a barrier on TTC buses, which will act as a shield to protect our members. Separating the driver’s space from the passenger compartment was done with the intention of reducing member assaults and allowing workers to feel safe in their working environment.
The new bus design will also aim to improve air quality.
“Our members have long been subject to risks of violence. As well, they endure long shifts on their bus with poor air quality,” said Marvin Alfred, President, ATU Local 113. “This is the first of many steps that need to be taken to protect the health and safety of our transit workers and riders.”.
