As a result of the orders of the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 has received a cheque from the provincial government in the amount of $741,250.  These court-ordered funds are towards legal costs incurred by Local 113 in its successful court challenge of TTC’s strike ban.

Marvin Alfred, President of Local 113, said this about the receipt of these funds, “As demonstrated by our recent negotiated collective agreement, there is no substitute for free collective bargaining and the Charter protected right to strike of transit workers. However, it is right and proper that the provincial government be held to account for putting Local 113 through court cases that were unnecessary.”
