TORONTO, ONTARIO – (August 31, 2018) – Frank Grimaldi, President of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, released the following statement regarding the Government of Ontario announcement of the appointment of a Special Advisor to upload the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) subway:
“Toronto’s transit workers are disappointed in today’s announcement by the Government of Ontario of a “Special Advisor” to upload Toronto’s subways. To improve the TTC, the Government should fund it properly – not break it apart. A divided system raises issues of accountability and integration while taking the first step in a slippery slope towards privatization, delays and fare hikes. ATU Local 113 calls on Torontonians to stand together to protect the public transit system we all rely on – and pay for.”
