TORONTO, ONTARIO – Carlos Santos, President of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, released the following statement regarding the TTC’s announcement that it is bringing back 132 laid-off workers.

“ATU Local 113 has been fighting for the return of all 450 workers since the TTC announced layoffs in April. Since August 12, we have been urging the TTC to restore full service to protect public health and prevent overcrowding on a growing number of routes. With students back in classrooms this week and more people returning to work increasing ridership, this has never been more important.

ATU Local 113 is happy to see the return of 132 of our members, but the TTC continues to keep 168 other laid-off public transit workers at home. We’re again calling on the TTC to bring back all laid-off workers so riders can commute with as much physical distancing as possible.”
