ATU Local 113 acknowledges the great sacrifices made by Canada’s veterans who have served our country and secured the peace and freedom we enjoy today. We are committed to the values they fought and died for.
Veteran Philip Horgan, who is a former Executive Board Member of ATU Local 113, was joined by President Marvin Alfred to lay a wreath and pay homage to veterans at the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Old City Hall Cenotaph.

Phil Horgan has had a 38-year career at the TTC, beginning in June 1984 as a Subway Janitor at the Plant Department. He moved on to several roles within the company, including Garage Person (coach cleaner) in Bus Maintenance, working at the old Eglinton, Wilson, Queensway, Danforth, and Lakeshore (Gray Coach) garages. In 1992, he became an apprentice Coach Technician/Service Technician, repairing cars and trucks at Duncan Shop (Non-Revenue section) from 1995, at the new Eglinton Bus Garage, and from 2006, at Lakeshore Garage. In 2012, he was elected as an Executive Board Member and served in that position until his retirement in January 2022.
Horgan has always played an active in the union from the very start of his career, attending union meetings and sharing union information with members in the workplace. He was mentored by former Assistant Business Agent Mike Valentini, who encouraged him to get involved with the union and taught him the workings of the union. Horgan served the Local in elected positions for twenty-two years – as Shop Steward at Duncan Shop (North Side) for one term, as Health and Safety Representative at Duncan Shop for ten years, and as Executive Board Member Automotive for three terms.
Horgan’s military service spans nearly 15 years, having joined the Reserve Army in 2007, as a Combat Service and Support Soldier, and qualified as a Combat Vehicle Technician. He completed work-up training for Operation Athena in Afghanistan between January 2009 to May 2010. He served in Afghanistan from May to December of 2010, while taking leave of absence from the TTC. He also served on two domestic operations while serving the Local, Operation Lentus in 2017 (Quebec floods) and Operation Lazer in 2019 (Covid 19 support).
Horgan has recently volunteered for Operation Reassurance and will be deployed in mid 2023, in support of the Ukraine.
