ATU Local 113 President Carlos Santos released the following statement after a video of an altercation between a bus operator and a rider was published online:

“This video speaks to the undeniable increased stress TTC workers endure when dealing with abuse from certain riders. It reflects a breaking point many TTC workers are feeling about abuse and assaults on the job. It’s a growing problem on the TTC – and seems to be getting worse. Public transit workers have been on the frontlines during the pandemic dealing with stressful situations, including abusive behaviour. We call on the TTC to do more to protect its workers from abuse and assaults. We also call on the public to follow the TTC’s rules and treat all its workers with the respect they deserve, especially now when they are providing an important service as our city continues to navigate through this pandemic.”
