TORONTO, ONTARIO – (August 29, 2019) – Carlos Santos, President of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, today released the following statement regarding alcohol sales inside the subway system:
“Beer and wine on the subway is an unnecessary risk to the TTC, interfering with commutes and the important service of Toronto’s nearly 12,000 hardworking public transit workers. Doug Ford should stop with costly distractions to his agenda, there are enough places in Toronto to buy alcohol already. This money would be better invested in public transit, as the PC Government is set to tear apart the subway from the rest of the system with their so-called upload, dismantling its integrated nature and taking the first step to privatization that’ll mean higher fares and reduced service for riders.”
