ATU Local 113 is proud to share that our annual Charity Hockey event was a tremendous success, thanks to the support from our members, friends and many volunteers.
We hosted the Maple Leafs Alumni for a charity hockey game to raise funds for MS Canada, at York University’s CANLAN Sports Arena, North York.
The event helped raise over $60,000.00 to support efforts of MS Canada. President Marvin Alfred and Secretary-Treasurer Mario Azzopardi presented a cheque to Amanda Zamperin, MS Canada’s Director, Community Fundraising.
The action-packed day began with a family skate event with over 200 families participating. Families also enjoyed meeting the Maple Leafs Alumni and getting autographs from their favorite Leaf legends. The Hockey Hall of fame brought out the Conn Smythe, Selke, Hart, Calder and the Art Ross Trophies to the event and fans were happy to get photographs ahead of the game.
An estimated 1,500 excited fans attended the hockey game. The Maple Leafs Alumniteam was coached by Wendel Clark while the ATU 113 ALL Stars team was coached by Rob Kempers. The final score was 19 Maple Leafs to 3 ATU 113 ALL STARS.
Vincenzo D’eila, one of our teams goalies, was nominated Player of the Game. Tom Humphreys (aka Marty) scored a beauty of a goal in the shootout competition for our team.
ATU Local 113 thanks all the players, our members, sponsors, and volunteers who helped make this event a huge success and a highlight of our events calendar. We look forward to continuing our support to fight MS in Canada.
