TORONTO, ONTARIO – April 18, 2022 – Marvin Alfred, President of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, released the following statement in regard to the violence against a passenger at Bloor-Yonge Subway Station yesterday evening.

“Last night, a passenger using the TTC train was a victim of violence at the Bloor- Yonge subway station.

We would like to send our well wishes for a speedy recovery to the victim. As well, since the suspect is still at large it’s critical that she is located to avoid further assaults and risk of danger.

ATU Local 113 would like to express their gratitude to members of the public who helped the victim after she was pushed off the platform and narrowly missed an oncoming train.

Throughout the pandemic, there has been an increase in aggravated assault. The continued level of violence towards passengers and transit workers cannot and will not be tolerated.

Your ability to commute should not be jeopardized by fear.”
