TORONTO, ONTARIO – Carlos Santos, President of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, released the following statement regarding today’s announcement that $2 billion of funding for Ontario’s municipal public transit agencies will be shared equally between the Ontario and federal government:

“After months of advocacy from ATU Local 113 and other transit advocates, we welcome today’s announcement of $2 billion in joint provincial and federal funding for Ontario’s transit agencies. ATU Local 113 has been a leading voice in calling for emergency transit funding since the coronavirus pandemic made TTC ridership plummet back in March. While the provincial government has yet to announce details on how it will distribute these funds, ATU Local 113 will continue to fight for fair TTC funding so our members can provide full transit service to Toronto – especially as more riders return to Canada’s largest transit system.”
