A plan by the Commission to cancel shuttle service on the Yonge line for the weekend of May 19/20 and for Metrolinx to run GO buses on these TTC lines has been stopped in its tracks.
ATU Local 113 knows the Commission is seeking to contract out Local 113 work to other transit providers. Don't be fooled, this is the real reason the Commission is refusing to renew important contracting out protections for the new collective agreement.
As soon as Local 113 learned of the latest plan to see Metrolinx running on TTC lines, we notified the Commission that this action was totally unacceptable and would be opposed. At the same time our sister Local, ATU 1587, which represents employees at Metrolinx/GO Transit, immediately came to our aid.
We know that the fight to stop privatization and contracting out of our work is far from over. It is only just beginning! We are prepared to do what needs to be done.
Things you can do to help us win this fight:
- Keep informed. Stay in contact with your union representatives;
- Spread the word. Privatization and contracting out is a real issue. Make sure your co-workers know how important this is and that we have to be ready to fight for ourselves and our families.
- Make your vote count! At the provincial election on June 7th, don't support candidates or political parties that want to contract out, privatize, or upload our work to Metrolinx (subways and LRT's).
Together we are Local 113 and we will prevail.
