TORONTO, ONTARIO – (February 17, 2017) – The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, which represents nearly 11,000 public transit workers in Toronto, released the following statement regarding former transit union head Bob Kinnear’s request to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to overturn the ATU’s temporary trusteeship of Local 113.
Statement by Manny Sforza, Trustee, ATU Local 113:
“Looking at the facts in this case, which are now open for all to review, we’re confident the court will rule in favour of Toronto’s transit workers. ATU’s decision to place Local 113 in trusteeship is a legitimate and measured response to Bob Kinnear’s willful and admitted violation of the union’s constitution and by-laws while turning his back on our members.
In recent weeks, the vast majority of members have said loud and clear they want Local 113 to remain in ATU, a union that solely serves the interests of transit workers and has for almost 120 years.
Despite the Bob Kinnear’s desperate distractions, ATU remains focused on what matters most – fighting hard for the real interests of transit workers who move Toronto.”
