On May 9th, ATU Local 113 and the TTC met in the presence of a government appointed conciliator. After walking away from the bargaining table three weeks earlier, the TTC tabled a proposed contract that is unfair and unacceptable to the 11,000 public transit workers who move Toronto.
The TTC is focused on reducing contracting out provisions, which transit workers will never accept. They also won’t accept a wage offer that is just 56% of what our sister union ATU Local 1587 Go Transit achieved in their recent settlement with Metrolinx. That was with absolutely zero concessions.
As a result of the TTC’s inability to listen to its workforce, ATU Local 113 had no choice but to ask the conciliator to take the next step necessary for the appointment of an interest arbitrator to resolve the outstanding issues between the parties.
