Toronto’s Transit Workers Observe National Day of Mourning

On April 28, 2017, transit workers across Toronto will honour all workers who have been killed, injured or who have suffered illness due to a work-related incident. Today is also a time to think about the families and friends who have been affected by these tragedies.

Celebrated each year, National Day of Mourning began in Sudbury in 1984. On April 28, 1985, the Canadian Labour Congress officially decorated it to be an annual day of remembrance, which is now solemnly observed in over 80 countries.

On this day, we must also stand united to renew our commitment to safety.  We can prevent worker injuries and deaths before they occur and we must recognize the role we each play in the health and safety of those around us. Every worker has the right to return home safe at the end of each day.

United in Safety, We Work Together.
